The cottages and renovated homes around Third Street South and Fifth Avenue South tend to carry their best glass up high — a skylight over a remodeled kitchen, a clerestory band above the front rooms, a tall stairwell window that pulls morning light into a narrow lot. That glass is the first to haze and the last to get cleaned, because a ladder set against a century-old porch or a tight side-yard is a problem, not a plan.
