Old Naples pools are usually courtyard pools — tucked behind the house on a tight lot, walled in, and shaded for much of the day by the canopy that makes the neighborhood. Shade and a pool are a bad combination for a deck: the surface never gets a proper dry stretch, so algae and organic film establish in the joints and across the stone, and the deck goes slick before it goes visibly dirty.

Travertine and shell stone are soft and will pit under the pressure that pavers tolerate, and a lot of the older courtyards have original coping worth being careful with. We pre-treat, wash to the surface at the pressure the material actually takes, then rinse and detail the edges and coping by hand.
