Sanibel homes are built up on pilings, which means the main living level and its Gulf-facing view glass start where a second story would be on the mainland, and the gable and clerestory panes above that are higher still. Those are precisely the windows taking the heaviest salt load on the coast, and precisely the ones nobody should be reaching with a ladder set on sand and shell.

The brush works salt out of the gable trim and frames as well as the glass, and the pure deionized rinse leaves the panes to dry clear in the sun with nothing left behind.

On a barrier island this is not decorative maintenance. Salt left on high glass through an off-season is the fastest route to bonded spotting that needs hard-water stain removal rather than a wash, so the upper panes are the strongest argument on the island for a recurring plan that runs while you are away.
